Women’s Rights –
CEDAW Regional Events

February 2026

IWN is partnering with The Women’s Resource Centre to host a regional event to hear directly from women and women’s organisations about the challenges you face and the changes you want to see. Your input will help shape the UK’s shadow report to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) as part of the upcoming List of Issues reporting round.

CEDAW is the key international treaty that holds governments to account on women’s equality and rights. This is a crucial opportunity to make sure the realities of women’s lives across the UK are heard at the highest level.

WRC is the leading coordinator of a grassroots, women's sector response to the CEDAW Committee. We have previously been commended on our role in uniting the sector and speaking with one voice on the issues that will affect us all the most. This is even more relevant now, when the reporting process has been streamlined and the Committee want a short list of top-line issues to take to the government.

At this event, we will:

  • Share an accessible explainer of the CEDAW process and why it matters.

  • Create space for women to share experiences on key issues such as violence against women and girls, economic inequality, health, welfare reform, the family courts and political participation.

  • Collect practical evidence and recommendations that will feed into the UK civil society report to the UN.

  • Build connections between local women’s organisations and strengthen our collective voice.

Who should attend?

Women with lived experience, grassroots women’s groups, frontline women’s services, and allies who want to influence policy change at both national and international levels.

Why it matters?

By taking part, you’ll be contributing to holding the UK Government accountable for its obligations under international human rights law and ensuring that women’s voices are central to shaping the future of policy and practice.
