About the event

👩🏾‍🍳 Food for Thought: Celebrate Black History Month with a Jamaican Johnny Cake Experience 👩🏾‍🍳

Join us for a joyful and flavorful celebration of Black History Month as we explore the rich culinary traditions of Jamaica through Johnny Cake making – also known as fried dumplings in Collaboration with Bev from CocoBean! 🇯🇲✨

What’s a Johnny Cake, you ask?Johnny Cakes are golden, crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside fried dumplings – a beloved part of Jamaican culture and cuisine. They’re simple, comforting, and deeply rooted in the African-Caribbean experience.

In this hands-on session, you’ll learn how to make traditional Jamaican Johnny Cakes from scratch. We’ll mix, knead, and fry together while also diving into the cultural and historical roots of this dish – tracing its journey through the African diaspora, from survival food to Caribbean staple.

This is more than just a cooking demo – it’s a space to learn, connect, and celebrate Black heritage through food,…
