Event Description:

Join us for the relaunch of our 'Film Nights' under the new banner: "Films for Thought: Think. Act. Impact." To mark Refugee Week, we are screening the award-winning documentary Shadow Game.

Shadow Game is an impressive documentary following several teenage boys who fled their home countries and are trying to find protection in Europe. Stories of hardship and exploitation, but also of endurance, warmth and human spirit. These are the stories of present-day Europe we should not look away from.

Shadow Game is a mosaic story in which the experiences of many young refugees on the roadare forged together into one universal tale: a modern Odyssey. Will they overcome the numerous obstacles they face? And will they finda new home?

Shadow Game is a film by directors Eefje Blankevoort and Els van Driel, made in closecooperation with colleague-journalist, researcher and translator Zuhoor al Qaisi. For the lastfour years they have been all over Europe together, meeting teenagers who are trying to crossborders in order to find safety and documenting their stories. They didn’t know the subjectsbefore they met them on location. They were, however, in close contact with grassrootsorganizations on the ground, often self-help migrant/refugee groups. To explain theirintentions and ask for permission they would contact the parent(s) or an adult relative in thecountries of origin or in a third country. They stayed in touch with the subjects and theirrelatives through messenger and WhatsApp from the moment they met until now, which insome cases has been forover three years.
